At a Glance

Six things that matter

Mechanical Specialisation

We focus on what we do well — mechanical and vintage movements — rather than offering a broad menu of services spread thin.

Communication Throughout

You are kept informed at each stage. No silence while your watch is with us — you know where it is and what is happening.

No Hidden Costs

Starting prices are stated clearly. Any additional work requires your agreement before it proceeds. The invoice matches the conversation.

Photographic Record

Restoration work is documented in photographs from intake through reassembly. You receive a record that stays meaningful long after collection.

Honest Timelines

We give the time a service actually takes and keep to it. Watches are not rushed through to clear a queue; each receives proper attention.

Original Character Preserved

We do not over-polish, over-restore, or change what should stay unchanged. The watch that leaves us still looks like itself.

Expertise in Mechanical Movements

Mechanical watchmaking is a craft that takes years to develop and requires continuous engagement with a wide variety of calibres. Our head watchmaker has spent more than a decade working exclusively on mechanical and vintage movements across Swiss, German, and Japanese calibres.

This focus matters because different movement families have different characteristics, different tolerances, and different service requirements. A jewelled lever escapement from the 1950s demands different knowledge than a modern Swiss automatic — and we understand both.

Capabilities

Pre-quartz mechanical calibres (1940s–1980s)
Modern Swiss automatic movements
Japanese lever and pin-lever movements
Pocket watch movements
Balance staff and mainspring replacement
Escapement cleaning and regulation

Tools and Working Methods

We use an ultrasonic cleaning system specific to watch parts, matched lubricants for each component type, and a timing machine that lets us verify rate accuracy across six positions before closing a movement. These are not special features; they are the minimum a conscientious service requires.

Working under magnification, we document each component's condition during disassembly. This gives both the customer and the watchmaker a clear reference if any question arises after collection.

Our Standard Process

  1. 01Intake photograph and condition note
  2. 02Assessment and service path agreed with owner
  3. 03Disassembly with component inspection
  4. 04Ultrasonic cleaning of movement parts
  5. 05Reassembly with correct lubrication
  6. 06Timing machine verification — six positions
  7. 07Water resistance test (where applicable)
  8. 08Final check and notification for collection

How We Treat Customers

We try to make the experience of leaving a watch with us feel reassuring rather than uncertain. This means explaining what we will do and why, contacting you if anything changes, and being straightforward about what a repair can and cannot achieve.

We also try to set expectations accurately from the first conversation. If a watch has a problem we cannot resolve, we will say so and suggest alternatives rather than accept a commission we cannot fulfil well.

What Makes Sawat Different

Things you will not find everywhere

Sentimental Value Understood

We know that the watch arriving in a box is not just a mechanism. It carries a story. Our approach to restoration is shaped by that understanding — consultation before alteration, photographs at every stage, and the original look kept wherever possible.

Accessible to Visitors and Remote Customers

Phuket draws customers from across Thailand and beyond. We have an established process for receiving watches by post, assessing them remotely, and returning them safely — so geography is rarely an obstacle.

We Say No When It Is Right to

If a watch falls outside what we can responsibly service, we will tell you and point toward the right place rather than accept a commission that will not turn out well. That honesty is better for both of us.

English and Thai — No Interpreter Needed

Our team communicates fluently in both languages. Local customers and international visitors alike receive the same quality of explanation — no misunderstandings about what is being done and why.
